Welcome to the Mechanism’s Archives Catalogue. The catalogue provides descriptions of the archival records of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), and International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism or IRMCT).
What the catalogue contains
The catalogue contains descriptions of records that have been transferred to the Mechanism archives for permanent preservation and have been fully catalogued. It does not contain copies of the records, or information about records which are still held by the Mechanism offices, including the Evidence Collection which is held by the Office of the Prosecutor.
The records of the ICTR, ICTY and the Mechanism can be divided in two broad categories: judicial records and non-judicial records. The archive catalogue has initially focused on providing descriptions of the non-judicial records as the judicial records are accessible via the Unified Court Records (UCR) Database. However, the catalogue does contain entries providing a general overview of the records from each of the early judicial cases. More work will be done on judicial records in the future.
The records are arranged by institution (ICTR, ICTY, IRMCT) at the highest level and then by function and activity or record series. All records are described to at least the series level.
Searching the Catalogue
To search the catalogue click on Search in the blue toolbar. The default is a simple search that allows you to search any text in the description of a record or series of records.
You can also browse each institution’s records by clicking on the related title on the simple search page.
Advanced search allows you to search by keyword on specific fields. You can also browse and select from lists of records creators, persons, and institutions.
Expert search allows you to build a more complex search with the Boolean operators AND/OR/AND NOT. This allows you to combine multiple fields or multiple instances of the same field in one search.
Advanced and expert searches can be refined by returning to the search page and changing or adding search terms.
Language
The database language can be switched between English and French. While most entries are currently in English, some fields, including language, security classification, and access conditions, will have French entries on the French interface.
How to view records
Public judicial records can be accessed via the UCR Database.
