- Reference codeICTY/CAS/7
- Date(s)2004-2013
- Scope and Content
The sub-sub-fonds documents the activities associated with administering site visits, including audio(visual) recordings of site visits, transcripts of the recordings, and minutes of the visits. These records were either filed on the Case File for relevant judicial cases or entered into evidence as exhibits.
Site-visits were organized at the request of a Trial Chamber. They allowed the Trial Chamber to acquaint themselves with the locations referred to in the indictments, to gain a better understanding of the terrain and other features. They were not fact-finding missions and no evidence was collected during a visit.
The first site visit was organized in the Brđanin case (IT-99-36) in March 2004.
Typically, the Prosecution was represented on site visits by at least one trial attorney, each accused by one counsel or co-counsel, and each party sent at least one investigator who was familiar with the region to assist the Chamber as a guide in discovering the locations to be viewed. A Registry representative was also present to facilitate the visit and record the minutes.
