The sub-sub-fonds contains policy and procedure documents related to the management of ICTY detainees and the United Nations Detention Unit (UNDU) in The Hague.
The administration of the UNDU was governed by the Rules Governing the Detention of Persons Awaiting Trial or Appeal Before the Tribunal or Otherwise Detained on the Authority of the Tribunal ("Rules of Detention"), IT/38. The Rules of Detention were intended to regulate, in general terms, the rights and obligations of Detainees at all stages from admission to release, and to provide the basic criteria for management of the Detention Unit. The Rules of Detention was supplemented with policy and procedure documents related to access to the media by detainees, complaints, visits, medical emergencies and death, as well as House Rules and Codes of Conduct.
