The series contains information for detainees and UNDU staff related to voluntary protest fasts (hunger strikes) and general correspondence between the Registry and detainees.
Rule 15 of the ICTY Rules of Detention stated that detainees "shall on admission be provided with written information [...] concerning:
i. the rights and treatments of Detainees;
ii. the disciplinary requirements of the Detention Unit;
iii. the authorised methods of, seeking information and making complaints; and,
iv. all other matters necessary to enable him to understand both his rights and obligations and to adapt himself to the routine of the Detention Unit." (Rules of Detention, IT/38/Rev.10).
